Another Argentine fails dope test

March 04, 2004 11:46 IST

Gimnasia-La Plata midfielder Esteban Gonzalez became the second Argentine footballer to fail a doping test in as many days, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) said on Wednesday.

The AFA said Gonzalez had tested positive for a banned substance, which was not identified, following his team's match against Boca Juniors on February 15, the opening weekend of the Clausura championship.

On Tuesday, the AFA said that San Lorenzo striker Carlos Daniel Cordone had failed a doping test for the second time in 12 months following his side's match with Chacarita Juniors the same weekend.

Cordone had tested positive for marijuana last April and was suspended for three months.
