Junior's funeral held in Brazil

The funeral of Dempo striker Cristiano Junior, who died on the field in the final of the Federation Cup at Bangalore on December 5, was held in Taguatinga, 30 km from Brazilia in Brazil on Wednesday evening, a Dempo official said at Margao on Friday.

The second post-mortem was held at the Legal Institute of Medicine in Brazil with the experts withholding the cause of death in the absence of the heart which is still in Bangalore.

Mahesh Lotlikar of Dempo Sports Club who is in Bangalore to collect the vital organs, including the heart which is kept at the Bangalore Medical College and Forensic Science Laboratory, will later sent them to Brazil.

During the second autopsy, the Brazilian Football Federation had deputed an observer, while there was no FIFA Medical Commission representative present, sources said.

Earlier, a CT scan was done in Goa at the request of FIFA and the report has been sent to them through All India Football Federation.

The striker met with a tragic death after winning the Federation Cup for Dempo Sports Club by scoring two goals.

The Brazilian collapsed and died seconds after scoring his team's second goal following a collision with Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Subrata Paul in the dying minutes of the final.
