Neha Uberoi wins Luxilon Cup

US citizen of Indian origin, Neha Uberoi upset top seed Nicole Vaidisova of Czechoslovakia in the finals of the prestigious Luxilon Cup Junior Tennis Tournament held at the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, Florida.

With this victory, Uberoi qualified for a wild card in the womens draw at next year's Nasdaq-100 Open and in the process became the first person of Indian origin to qualify for a Tier-1 event on the WTA Tour.

Uberoi beat Vaidisova 6-2, 6-4, in the final to grab the title. Neha was down at 0-3 in the second set, but went on to win 6 of the next 7 games to win the match. Vaidisova, who is ranked world number 6 in the juniors, was the junior Australian Open runner-up and was also the winner of the Grade-A Orange Bowl in December.

Uberoi will play at the Nasdaq-100 Open in 2005. The Nasdaq-100 Open is one of the biggest tournaments on the WTA tour and Uberoi will have the opportunity to showcase her talent against the likes of Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Elena Dementieva and Jennifer Capriati.
