Delhi ref for pre-Olympic football tie

May 09, 2003 18:04 IST

The pre-Olympic second round football match between Kuwait and Palestine will be officiated by Delhi referee Rizwan-ul Haq.

The match is scheduled to be played in Amman, Jordan, on June 7.

FIFA referee Haq is the second Delhi official to be assigned a pre-Olympic match. Last month, Krishan Avtar supervised the match between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Delhi Soccer Association secretary N K Bhatia, in a statement, said the appointment of the two Delhi-based referees by the soccer's world governing body is a matter of pride for the local football fraternity.

He also announced that the All India Football Federation has promoted five Delhi referees to the National grade.

The promoted referees are Hari Chand, Sitendu Saha, Ashok Ghosh, Bikramjit Purkayastha and Mohammad Kamil.

Bhatia also announced that the third Ambuja Cup five-a-side tournament will be held in Delhi from May 15.
