Easy for East Bengal

June 23, 2003 21:27 IST

Spearheaded by nimble-footed Baichung Bhutia, East Bengal blanked West Bengal Police 3-0 in a Kolkata Super Division League match on Monday.

The Sikkimese put the National Football League champions ahead while Alvito D'Cunha scored a brace to ensure full points for the winners, who now have six points from two matches.

After Bhutia drew the first blood from a penalty, D'Cunha showed fine opportunism to find the target as East Bengal led 2-0 at half-time.

East Bengal continued their dominance in the second-half, carrying out waves of attack in rival territory.

The policemen, who found themselves all at sea against the East Bengal onslaught, conceded another goal as D'Cunha found the mark in the second session.
