Petroleum Sports reign supreme

Petroleum Sports Promotion Board completed a grand double when they annexed the men's and women's crowns in the 58th Inter-State National badminton championships at the Kanaklata indoor stadium, in Guwahati, on Thursday.

The PSPB women's team lifted the Chaddha Cup, getting the better of Maharashtra 2-0.

In the first singles, Aparna Popat beat Trupti Murgande 11-8, 11-8 while in the doubles, Jwala Gutta paired with Shruti Kurian to beat Archana Deodhar and SIM Salaria 13-1, 11-0.

In the men's championship for the Rahimtoola Cup, PSPB downed Railways 3-0.

In the first singles, Abinn Shyam Gupta beat J B S Vidyadhar 15-9, 15-0 while the second singles was won by Chetan Anand, who bamboozled Arup Baidya 15-0, 15-0.

Jaseel Ismail paired with Marcos Bristow to complete the rout by beating Vidyadhar and Mitesh Hazarnis 15-12, 15-8.

Earlier, in the women's semi-finals, PSPB beat Assam 2-0 while Maharashtra beat Andhra Pradesh by an identical score.

In the men's event, Railways beat Kerala 3-1 while PSPB drubbed Uttar Pradesh 3-0.
