Juan Carlos Ferrero dominated the clay-court season with wins at the French Open -- his first Grand Slam triumph -- the Monte Carlo Masters and Valencia Open.

Having won only one tournament during the year on surfaces other than clay (at Madrid), he showed he still has a lot to learn. But no longer can he be accused of suffering from stage fright. His French Open title will have assured all doubters about his class.
