Days of Genius

In 1948, he retired.

His final years were unhappy. Ignored by the Indian Hockey Federation and mostly forgotten by the nation, he was a bitter man.

So bitter that he did not allow his sons to play the game.

On December 3, 1979, he passed into the ages. A year later, the government issued a postage stamp in his honour.

In 2001, he was named 'All-time great sportsperson of the century' by the K K Birla Foundation.
