Vasco down Tollygunge, take top spot in the league

Goa challengers Vasco Sports Club moved to the top of the National Football League after outsmarting Kolkata's Tollygunge Aggragami 2-1 in a crucial 16th round match in the Tata National Football League, at the Salt Lake stadium, on Thursday.

Rui Wanderley and Marcos Pereira scored for Vasco in the 44th and 50th minutes respectively, while A Biswas reduced the margin for Tollygunge in the 65th minute.

The victory took Vasco to the top of the 12-team league table with 31 points from 16 matches, three points more than Mohun Bagan and Salgaocar.

Mohun Bagan play their 16th round match against ITI, Bangalore, on Friday and a win will see them stay in contention for honours.

With today's loss, Tollygunge have 18 points from 16 matches.

JCT, HAL match postponed to Saturday

Meanwhile, the 16th round match between Hindustan Aeronautics and JCT, scheduled for Friday, at Bangalore, has been postponed following security concerns due developments on the Ayodhya issue.

A Karnataka State Football Association spokesman said the match would be played on March 16.
