You would be suprised to know that the first ever 'Tour' took place on January 19, 1903, because a magazine -- I'Auto -- wanted to boost its sales figures. The honour of coming up with the idea and actually organising the event goes to Henri Desgrange, a true cycling enthusiast who set the world's first one-hour cycling record.
