Kanetkar loses in final

Nikhil Kanetkar went down in the final of the men's singles of the Scottish international badminton championships, at Glasgow, on Sunday.

Kanetkar lost to Irwansyah, an Indonesian settled in Wales, 5-7, 6-8, 2-7.

Earlier, on Saturday, he had defeated Andrew Dabeka of Canada 8-6, 7-5, 7-0 in the semi-final. Dabeka had earlier upset the tournament's second seed Joachim Fischer Nielson of Denmark in the quarter-finals.

Nikhil, who lost eight months of training last year due to liver infection, is making a good comeback to international badminton.

His best performance on the international scene till date has been a runners-up finish in the US Open Grand Prix championship in 1999, and winning the Colombo Asian satellite championships in 1998.
