Wild card entrant Oormila Ram of Andhra Pradesh shocked fourth-seeded Poonam Reddy in three sets to enter the quarter-finals of the girls' under-18 singles in the Adidas AITA Juniors tennis tournament in Bombay on Wednesday.

Oormila ousted Poonam, who has six AITA points to her credit, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to earn a quarter-final meeting with sixth seed Anuja Parikh of Maharashtra, who got past wild card recipient Sonali Sanap, also of Maharashtra, 6-2, 7-6 (tie break 7-3), in another pre-quarter-final clash.

Top seed Medini Sharma thrashed fellow-Maharashtra player Aditi Vasant without dropping a game and will now take on fifth seed Gangotri Sandri, who drubbed Anjani Kant of Delhi 6-1, 6-0, in another quarter-final tie.

Other seeds to advance to the last eight in this section were third seed Fatima Baig (Tamil Nadu), who got past Nidhi Shah of Maharashtra 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and seventh seed Shradha Lodha of Maharashtra, who defeated Astha Uppal of Delhi 6-1, 6-2 in the pre-quarter-finals.

In two other pre-quarter-final ties, Toshi Sinha beat AP's Meghana Paritala 6-3, 6-4, while another Maharashtra girl Kartiki Bhat ousted her state rival Kanisha Mehta 6-1, 6-0.
