Faisal Shariff in Bangalore

Wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia, opener Wasim Jaffer and left-arm spinner Murli Karthik have been dropped from the Indian team for the five-match one-day series against South Africa. Fast bowler Javagal Srinath has been rested for the first three matches of the event.

Saurav Ganguly will lead the side whose other members are Ajay Jadeja, Ajit Agarkar, Amit Bhandari, Anil Kumble, Mohammad Azharuddin, Mohammad Kaif, Nikhil Chopra, Rahul Dravid, Robin Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Sameer Dighe, Sunil Joshi and Thirunavakarasu Kumaran.

Chandu Borde, chairman of the selectors, said, "Kumaran got five wickets at Brisbane. It is time he is given a chance."

Borde said other players who were considered for a place in the team but did not make the cut were fast bowlers Santosh Saxena, Venkatesh Prasad and Zaheer Khan.
