Statistical Highlights 4th match: Zimbabwe v England at Cape Town, 28-1-2000 (d/n)

This match was Zimbabwe's 140th and England's 304th in LOIs.

This match was the 8th meeting between the two sides.

Neil Johnson's 97 was Zimbabwe's highest against England in LOIs. The previous best was the unbeaten 84 by Grant Flower at Sydney on 15-12-1994.

Johnson's score was also the highest at this venue by any batsman in LOIs. The previous highest was the unbeaten 83 by South African Jonty Rhodes against Australia on 2-4-1997.

The third wicket partnership of 55 runs between Johnson and Murray Goodwin was Zimbabwe's best against England. The previous best was the 50 run partnership between Alistair Campbell and Andy Flower at Harare on 3-1-1997.

The wicket of Carlisle was Gough's 116th wicket of his career in his 68th match. Now among Englishmen only Ian Botham (145 wickets in 116 matches) has more wickets in LOIs.

The partnership for the 7th wicket between Guy Whittall and Heath Streak equals Zimbabwe's best against England which was between Campbell and Paul Strang at Harare on 3-1-1997.

The catch of White was Alistair Campbell's 44th of his career. This makes him the Zimbabwean fielder with maximum catches in LOIs. He went past the tally of 43 catches by Grant Flower.

The partnership of 16 runs between Craig White and Mark Ealham was England's best for the 7th wicket against Zimbabwe.

Then the 16 run partnership between Chris Read and Andy Caddick was also the best for England against Zimbabwe for the 10th wicket in LOIs.

Henry Olonga's 6-19 was the best figures by a Zimbabwean bowler in LOIs. He just improves on the previous best of 6-20 by left-arm medium pacer Bryan Strang against Bangladesh at Nairobi (Aga Khan) on 14-10-1997.

It was the eighth best figures by a bowler in LOIs and the third best figures by a bowler against England. The best still remains with Australian Gary Gilmour (6-14) at Leeds on 18-6-1975 and West Indian Colin Croft (6-15) at Kingstown on 4-2-1981.

It was also the best figures by a bowler on South African soil. The previous best was the 6-35 by South African Shaun Pollock against the West Indies at East London on 24-1-1999.

Incidentally, the previous best figures at this venue was the 5-25 by South African Lance Klusener against Pakistan on 23-4-1998 and the previous best figures by a Zimbabwean bowler against England was the 5-28 by Eddo Brandes at Harare on 3-1-1997.

It was the third best figures by a bowler in a day-night encounter and also by a bowler bowling under floodlights in LOIs. Only India's Anil Kumble (6-12 against West Indies at Calcutta on 27-11-1993) and Pakistan's Azhar Mahmood (6-18 also against West Indies at Sharjah on 19-10-1999) have better figures.

England's total of 107 was its fourth lowest in LOIs. It was its lowest against Zimbabwe. The previous lowest being the 118 at Harare on 3-1-1997.

It was also the second lowest by any team against Zimbabwe. The previous lowest was the 92 by Bangladesh at Nairobi (Aga Khan) on 14-10-1997.

It was Zimbabwe's sixth victory over England in 8 matches between the two sides.

It was Olonga's second man of the match award of his career in 22 matches. He had won his first award at Sharjah against India on 11-11-1998.
