Taiwan lift ban on two athletes

Taiwan's weightlifting association has quashed a two-year ban on two women lifters who tested positive for drugs.

The decision cleared the way for Chen Jui-lien, one of the island's top medal prospects, and Wu Mei-yi to compete in the Sydney Olympics.

Association spokesman Chiu Shui-wen said on Saturday the suspensions were lifted because the tests contained "many, many procedural errors" and did not follow international practices.

"We feel it necessary to correct the mistakes," Chiu said.
