Message:You can doubt anybody and everybody unless they are proved. You can charge anybody and everybody with papers enough to file charges. That doesn't infer that He (Cronje) is clean or cheater. (it's just beginning) If he IS clean then simple, he should prove it now. Otherwise already someone else has almost proved that he is a cheater. One thing for sure, in this world if one is not cautious, money (greed for it) can take that person, a group of person, a society or a country from its' topmost position of clean character to the downmost one. We all should give sufficient time and not extra time to both sides to dig the matter. Either Hansie is telling lie or Singh is in doubt. Let both sides fight legally before we come to sensible conclusion. bye

Message:It comes as no surprise to anybody, so why is media making so much fuss about it. As the match-fixing is no surprise, so is the fact that nothing is going to come out of this case.Does any one want to bet on it! Has anything come out of Sukhram, Laloo,Rajiv Gandhi,Jayalalitha cases. The only thing this controversy does is to help the media pass the time

Message:No i don't think an honest man like Hansie or for that matter any of the South Africans would do such a thing. This is all fabricated stuff which has no truth whatsoever in it.I wonder if its a desperate attempt by the Delhi police to regain the respect which they have long lost due to thier own deeds.

Message:This whole thing is a utter nonsense and a sheer waste of time. How could Hasie, a sportsmen can do like this. This is nothing but cheap publicity that some people wants. Why are these things happenning in India and this sub-continent only. If this is proved then not only the players, but cricket as a sport should be totally banned.

The big countries big players big venuues big money and bing cricket boards and big ICC and above all big betting. so all these days wer are watching cheats play according to their masters wishes THE PLAYERS MAY BECOME RICH BUT THE GAMES HAS BECOME LOT POORER AND LOST ITS BASIC CHARM

Name:Shripad
Email:shripad_nayak@hotmail.com
Message:I don't believe that Hansie is involved in this one. Its some one imitating Hansie. Cricket will not be affected by these kind of things. I reckon, intimation with bookies by the players has been on individual basis or in small groups. I don't buy the idea of any team fixing a match as a team. But few individuals once in a while may have fixed their own performance, thats for sure. Some truth searching is needed.

Message: First if this case should be proved. If it is proved right then first they should ban all the palyres involved in this particular scandal for their life.Yes this could be eradicated for ever only if the cricketers are supporting and not allowing any bookie to do such things or if they are really intersted in not repeating such scandals they should come forward and complaint on the bookies who ever is approaching them. I defnitely feel this could be eradicated. The action the cricket boards or icc is going to take should be a lesson to other players so that they does not even think of betting in their wildest dreams if the case is proved.

Message:Hansie or Tendulkar or Jadeja or Azhar it does not matter now. There is far too much money involved. Astronomical sums that could jolt the concience out of you and me. Cricket has a huge patronage and the whole game has become a business. When it comes to money, anything & everything is fair. Morals take a back seat. I recollect a famous quote "Eleven gentelmen playing and eleven thousand fools watching". Indeed, We are all fools. Then what is the remedy. Discourage Cricket as a sport. There are many other sports which can benifit by our patronage. Boycot Cricket. Reduce the money flow into Cricket. Develop some other sport.

Message:betting has been there for past years. but there was no concret hard proof. this time the proof has come and it is sure to create a lot of hue and cry in the international scene. yes , a purge is possible - as this is a crime to cheat people, media and other cricket associates with this pantomime. the ICC should take a firm stand on all this and the media should go ahead with the whole coverage to make persons behind this public. after all we need "Cricket" - the fair play game.

Message:My opinion about the cricket is, taking into the consideration of all the previous scandals like ball tampering, match-fixing, etc which didn't make any effect on the present cricket, cricketers and audience, so i think that this will also be having the same effect till this has proved. But according to me this has to be take seriously and there should be some rules implemented which make all the cricketers not to follow SA captain.

Message:No wonders. I know these guys. At least our sub-continent has some kind of god fear. We will think twice before doing any kind of these mischief's. But these guys. We cannt trust them. The same cronje cheated the indian team publicly in the world cup by carrying wireless sets. By the time, everbody noticed, the damage is already done to the indians (sachin was out and it went unnoticed). Look at warne and mark. they are freely moving. Till now the so-called CLEAN country umpires do public match-fixing (by cheating on the grounds with their dubious decisions), now their players too doing wonders in match-fixing and now publicly. We should ban and debar these guys, as gavaskar told just remove all their records . bye bye raj

Message:Delhi Police filing charges? Really? That lot who can't distinguish between innocent citizens and criminals and who shoot the innocent ones in broad daylight? This lot claim to hav eveidence basedon some telephone conversation where the voices cud be anybody's? And our sensation-hungry media (thristing for the next bit of hot news after Clintonmania) laps it up? Shame on us and our so-called culture that we keep waxing eloquent about? I agree entirely with Jagmohan Dalmiya: what has been proved so far? We are speaking of the integrity of a man who will surely be consdered one of cricket's most sporting & upright captains. This is not some B-grade Hindi film script from Bollywood. Can we all just come to our senses, and stop being slaves to sensation?

Message:This accusation on Hansie & his team has surely given every fan of cricket a great shock;young or old, male or female. It seems like a sin to even think about the South African team involved in match fixing. Personally,I have a tremendous amount of respect for Hansie. The way he leads the team through personal performance. Keeps every one on the field on his toes all the time. He is undoubtedly one of the senior most captains in cricket today. And an accusation like this being laid on him has come as a HUGE shock to me. A matter as sensitive as this one will have to handled with great care,or we might see a boycott of all international cricket teams from touring India in fear of being "framed" for match fixing. So many questions arise in ones mind. Were there any Indian players in the current team that "used" the accused Rajesh Kalra & Sanjay to fix the matches in the Pepsi series ? Does this mean that the only matches that the indain team is able to scrape through for a win are fixed ? Is there anyone now in the game that can be trusted ? Until all the proceedings are done with & the "smoke has cleared from the fire",I really don't think that any fan of the game will be able to enjoy cricket as the Gentlemans Game.

Message:Hi! This gives us the light in the dark. As yet though we had the light, it was not enough. As per the claim made by the Delhi Police, we have to believe the harshest of the truths about the South African Cricket Captain. According to me the truth is the stuff according to the Delhi Police so what if it is soo harsh.

Message:The persons (whoever it might be) involved in this scandal should be punished severely. We, the common people, could not afford to waste anymore valuable time, experience any more tension till the last moment of the game (that our nation would win). This is an action of cheating your own countrymen, and should be considered as serious as an issue where a soldier reveals his army-secrets to the enemy-country. After this incident, I don't think any sensible person can enjoy watching cricket. He can't appreciate a good delivery, a great catch, a terrific century. His focus will be on 'who has been paid how much for doing what'. Watching cricket will become something like, watching a movie whose climax is pre-known, with some cool ads in between. We don't care whether cricket can ever return to the age of innocence. A belief once lost is lost forever. After all, this scandal may simply be closed by another act of bribery to someone else. So my advice to the countrymen (infact, to everybody) is not to waste any more time, energy in these stupid (I am totally justified for using this word) things. There are more valuable things in life, which are worth spending time. Thanks Shiva

Message:I know it is still hard-hitting when u read something as headlines, though u always felt or rather thought that this thing _had_ to be existing but had never been publicly acknowledged or known. This applies perfectly to the current betting scandal. Dirty money exists in every field, be it politics or sports or watevr. Personally I feel our current values have eroded to a great extent, though thank god we still perceive this as a scam :) It is highly unrealistic to assume that cricket is perfectly clean. For cricket to return to its gentlemen's game, we will require each one of us to scrutinize our own morals first, coz where there is fame and publicity, there are always gonna be dirty secrets hidden. It is gonna take a hell lot of confessions as well as soul searchin if this thing is to be cleaned !

Name:an ex-cricket fan
Email:excricfan@hotmail.com
Message:Though the involvement of Hansie Cronje comes as a surprise, the involvement of India, Pakistan and Australia is of course known to everyone. Match fixing allegations have been aired before and they will be aired again, and the ICC wouldnt be doing anything about it either, because they will lose the millions od dollars of money that is floating around. So everyone will stay mum and turn a blind eye, and the circus will carry on. The merry game of cricket!!

Name:Munish Gupta
Email:munish_gupta@hotmail.com
Message:This is not the first time scandal of this nature and magnitude has hit cricket. We have till now been in denial that this cancereous growth does not exist. We cannot change the past but what we can do from here is to take serious view of the situation, institute an enquiry and take punitive action against the players involved in match-fixing. Only then can we bring some dignity back to the game.

Name:Vikky Verma
Email:vikkyverma@yahoo.com
Message:I simply can't believe it.Hansie Cronje is a captain having a repo of being fair & he seems to think logically on the ground. If he is guilty then it is the end of cricket as a mode of entertainment. Now we will look toward matches as to guess who has fixed the match this time & we can speculate on the amount of money that can be involved in it.

Message:Cricket is not going to die. Bcos diesese until not manifested fullblown is not not called a diesese. Now if(?) this diesese has manifested, expert doctors(ICC,S.A. cricket board)can cure it to the extent such that it will loose some of its features of manifistation not to be called a diesese again. So cricket revives.

THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AWAY OF MATCHFIXINGS&BETTINGS. BUT THE SHOCKING NEWS OF HANSIE CRONJE INVOLVED IN SUCH THINGS IS STILL NOT BELIEVABLE CAUSE THAT MAN NEVER HAS BEEN OR NEVER COULD BE INVOLVED. HE ALREADY RECEIVES A LOT INCOME THAN ANY OTHER CAPTAINS OR PLAYERS. HE HAS HIS OWN TWO FAMILIES ONE FOR WHOM HE EARNS & THE OTHER FOR WHOM HE PLAYS. ITS CERTAINLY A FAKE & LIE BLAME BY THOSE BOOKIES.THEY MAY BE DOING THESE CAUSE HANSIE & HIS TEAMMATES MAY HAVE IGNORED THEIR OFFERS OR IT MUST BE A PLAN OR SOMETHING. I feel the Pakistanis lead the gang followed by the others. I would go the extent tat even india is also involved directly in these scams. But I really doubt if anything can be done about it. NOW THAT THE PROOF IS INFRONT OF THE WORLD, ONE SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION AGAINST THE GUILTY AND STOP THIS DIRTY GAME OF BAITING AND MATCH FIXING. I DONT THINK THERE CAN BE SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE AND THAT THE FIRE IS SEEN ONE SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION WITHOUT LOOKING INTO HOW GREAT A CRICKETER IS!! I DONT THINK THOSE WHO HAVE FOUND GUILTY ARE REALLY VERY GREAT CRICKETERS OR SO. EXCEPT CRONJE ALL OF THEM HAVE TO PROVE THEMSELVES. I THINK MR. DALMIYA SHOULD TAKE CORRECTIVE MEASURES IN THIS EPISODE AND TRY TO IMPROVE GAME OF CRICKET BEFORE HIS TERM ENDS.

Message:This incident, if true, makes us all wonder as to where will it end. The remarkable loss of SA against India in India and then their sudden back to form in Sharjah where they trounced the hapless Indians again and again is an indicator that all may not be kosher in the ay matches are being played. If one takes a totally cynicaly view, then consider this: South Africans are long considered 'chokers'. They lose big matches. Now, consider this. Their captain is all chummy with shadowy characters from betting syndictaes. Could it be that Kluesner ran on the last ball of World Cup semi-final, bcz he was asked to do it by Cronje? Was it all a grand plan? Nah! We can't be that wicked. But this is certainly a possibility. Think again. The final of Sharjah Coca Cola 2000. How many people would have thought that Pakistan will defeat SA, regardless of Pak winning the last meaningless match of the league. All pundits were proven wrong. It wa a close match, no doubt. But who won? Not the Africans, mind you. Now we are really getting carried away. Thats not how logical people think. But, remember, we are not logical people. We are followers of cricket. Its a passion. We worship the teams which wins, and throw rocks on the same team when it loses. Its all very simple and very complex. Just keep on winning. This is not sports, but this is the way we are. Guess, who are the biggest losers in all this. Lets assume, all of Indian cricket team is innocent in all this (as the police suggests) till now. They fought a great match, and managed to win the series. And they though they have won fair and square. Now, this scandals breaks out. Nah! You only won because of one Mister Sanjeev Chawla thought he will make a quick buck by betting on the Indian team winning. Isn't it a shame? No, its a sham! All of it. Guess, how will Indian Police arrest Cronje? It will not be a pretty sight of Cronje wearing striped pajama suit in a prison. But then it is not a pretty sight of a cricketer holding a mobile phone to his ears sitting in a dressing room. Spare me all the excuses, puhleaze!! Hey Kangaroos! Did you really win the world cup 1999! I dunno. Both the Africans and Pakistanis are culpable. They can win or lose. It all depends on the rate. Australians admitted they took money from the betting synidicate. Why did they take it? To tell pitch and weather information! Ha! And I am the President of Microsoft. Come on, guys. Clean up your house. Or Cricket will soon to be known as WWF.

Message:GOSH !! ..These people(match fixing squad) are spoiling the game totally. Thinking of it as of now,the game is not being played in it's true spirit.Too much tech stuff & now ..something new ..match fixing.gone are the days when we used to play or watch the game for pure thrill ..now it's too much competition & honour at stake.I can understand if the competition is taken in it's true sense ..to uplift the stardard of the game ..but getting oneself involved in throwing away any particular match or as of now,the whole series, is RIDICULOUS. can't think of any individual .. selling his honour ..for a few pieces of green ... Well ..one feels that there could have been instances when one felt that the match is being thrown away ...but lemme just say that there are totolly 11 players in a team ..even is a few are involved ..the game cannot swing in anybody's favour.c'mon ..hansie is a gritty player .. who r the others ..Boje,Strydom,williams,gibbs ..of which two have not even proved their worth. Well ..the team performance revolves around Pollock, hansie,Kallis ..& lemme say..all did well in the tour in india. Hansie was even responsible for dismissing Mr Perfect 10 on several occasions .. All the matches that we won in India .. well..they were well fought matches & it is wrong to take away the credit from the indians.they really put up a brave front ..considering an abysmal Test series. This is bullshit .. first Wasim, then Azza & co & now Mr cronje ...C'mon ..guys ..play the game for the spirit ..not for the money .. then not only 22 players on the fiels would enjoy it ,..but 22 million viewers ,too, would appreciate it.

Message:It seems that something big is yet to come. I feel that the story is true and not only players are invloved but umpires too do their bit. All those players irrespective how they big should be banned from playing cricket and should be kicked out if they haven't performed or in case of doubtful showing. Afterall they are getting paid handsomely in this world of beggers. If they are doing their part by playing well let them be out of the team so that someone else should get the chance to earn some money. No player should be allowed to play for long periods and earn big amounts. None of these players are bothered about the prestige of the country and gives only lip service by saying that I want to play for my country and I want to die for this country and so on... All these seems to be ruthless rubbish or effort to make the public fools. One more thing I have to add is that the cricket telecasting should be banned for a period of minimum two years so that a country like ours could not spend crores of rupees on account of power and thus wastage of power and man power becuase of the time spend on watching TV.

Message:With the amount of money involved and the craze for this sport in the Asian subcontinent, it is not surprising that the betting malice exists. The whole thing is despicable. Imagine watching a close match between two teams and biting your nails in tension not knowing that the whole thing is staged, that the decision on who will win or lose has been made in the backrooms already. ICC is/was spineless always and there is not much hope for it to improve. All that they are concerned about is the revenues thay can generate thru sponsorships. There has to be a backlash- from the public who watch this game, from the sponsors who put in their money and from anyone and everyone who is interested in the future of cricket. Else a bleak future awaits this game......... One can rather watch WWF -atleast we know it is staged...

Message: Its unbelievable. Of all Cronje , which I believe the greatest ambassador of sport during our time. Whats the interest in seeing cricket match full day, neglecting other important things. It was like festival for us. Unless proven otherwise , these players should be banned from playing lifetime and should be jailed with heavy fine. If they are proven innocent, people who have raised this allegations should be given life imprisonment. This is because , i believe the people in question are supposedly of high integrity and massive fan following. The other aspect is that, it will be difficult for anyone to understand that no Indian players were involved. Lets wait till the final investigations rae over. Till that time the game of cricket will have to suffer.

The same laws that are being used against the corrupt defence personal should be used against the cricketers to bring back the innocence into the game which is very important at this stage and especially in the sub-continent where people are cricket crazy and the cricketers are made equal to super humans.

Message: As you put it, one thought only Asian players were prone to selling their souls. Makes one wonder... that one-dayer in Sharjah against Pakistan where Robin Singh and Jadeja took a zillion balls to score a paltry final four runs for victory... what was happening out there? Certainly didn't look like cricket!

Message:Guys, we need to wait before we make any statements . These are only allegations made. It has not yet been proved. Anyhow a tape recorded voice cannot be taken as tangible proof. I still believe these are baseless allegations and its too early to doubt a person of Hansie's integrity. But if these allegations are proved these guys shud not be allowed to touch a cricket bat or ball again for the rest of their lives. The harshest possible punishment shud be given so that henceforth no one dares to think off selling of his country just for a few extra bucks. But I still have hope that these r baseless allegations . Lets wait and see.

Message:I have not understood why the police have opened their mouth ona half-case. We didn't go through with the enquiry properly when Manoj Prabhakar shouted himself hoarse about this matter. There were clumsy attempts at cover-up even then. And now, when the game is almost in the bag, the police have spoilt it again. It would have been more prudent to wait and get water-tight evidence on the Indian involvement, bookies and players. Now the world is looking at South Africa, but the actual culprits in India will in all probability go scot-free. Another golden chance lost.It is time the fans, and the administrators realized that cricket is not a noble gentleman's game it used to be. And two problems in particular need to be dealt with urgently - betting & drugs.

Message:If this latest match-fixing controvesy is proved, then cricket is gone to the slums.. Most of the Indian ODI's, should be secrutinized,as our cricketers display kindergarten skills. Did the South Africans lose the final at Sharjah on purpose? Did the Pakis lose the World Cup'99 final to Aussies after taking "bung"? It's easy to say the other team played well.. but seroiusly think about it...

Message:Dirty money has always been part of the game. But it is how we play the game that matters. Just because one or two apples turn rotten doesn't mean we have to throw the whole basket out. Men who play the game straight will always be in a majority. All the Hansies of this world will one day be forgotten. The game will still go on.

Message:The game is greater than the players and I am sure that it can come out of this issue unharmed. However, it is sad that a scandal such as this had to come up in the first place. If found guilty, the players should be banned for life. It is tragic that these players take money to throw away matches. Few are given so much talent, and to waste it for monitary gains is really shameful.

Message:The Delhi police should make the tapes public because Hansie's voice is easily recognisable. If the tapes that were played on the STAR NEWS channel yesterday are the ones that they are talking about, then the whole thing is a definite hoax and this turn out to be a big embarrasment to the Delhi Police.

With the South African entry to dirty arena, it is becoming increasingly difficult for cricket lunatics to enjoy the game the way they used to. However, still investigating authorities have to do lot of work for the poor cricket public. In the end the popularity of game is becoming the cause of its death also.

How come bookies and any person know about itiniearires and people involved with cricket and given free acess to visting team players room. Govt should enquire a CBI Probe into the whole affair. BCCI officals are not doing any service to the nation, but are laundering money earend by cricket. Message:To speak my mind, from the time that we let money rule cricket, in the name of globalization, the game was doomed. While I dont deny that money is needed, too much too soon and the greed caught on. lack of balance is a prime reason. while Indians are good are sports that extend beyond the realms of cricket, competition amongst the corporate people is only in supporting cricket. no other game gets even a tenth of the support. and towards that I dont know of anyone else to blame other than the cricketing public. the demand. if they know what it is to boycott, then things will come their way and there will be no talk to the game in disrepute. because then they will need our patronage to even survive. so my dear fellow Indians, my clarion call to you. forget cricket as a passion. forget it as a reason for pride. just look at it as a sport played by eleven individuals with the talent to swat a ball around a big ground with a swath of wood. and dismiss them after that. dont go around carrying them as though they are THE citizens of the nation. start being balanced. thanks
