Indians warned for dissent

The Indian cricket team was warned for dissent after their stand-in captain Saurav Ganguly and Australian Test umpire Darrell Hair were involved in an exchange of words on the third day of the four-day match against New South Wales today.

The pair clashed after a close decision went against spinner Anil Kumble.

Coach Kapil Dev said that Hair told Ganguly: ''Why first the Pakistanis, now you Indians have to do something like this?''

Hair was understood to have told Ganguly that players in international games are not allowed to watch video replays on the big screen and then show dissent.

India's batsmen finally showed some form and set up a victory chance as NSW were left needing 222 to win on the final day with nine wickets in hand.

India, shot out for 185 in their first innings, improved to 331 second time around. Ganguly made 81, opener Sadagopan Ramesh 74 and Ajit Agarkar 65 not out.

Paceman Brett Lee took four for 77 and spinner Stuart MacGill four for 84 on a turning pitch.
