Jacintha Saldanha's body arrives in Mangalore

Last updated on: December 16, 2012 19:06 IST

The outpouring of grief was immense at Mangalore when the body of Jacintha Saldanha arrived here on Sunday.

Jacintha allegedly committed suicide after she inadvertently became part of a hoax by a radio station that revealed Prince William's wife Kate Middleton was pregnant.

Jacintha's husband Bendict Barboza, son Junal and daughter Lisha, who arrived with the body, appeared calm and fought back tears. They requested the media not to ask them any questions as they wanted to spend time with their family members.

The family members said that they would speak to the media later. Other family members of Jacintha said that did not want to comment on the ongoing investigation into her death.

The family has faith in the investigation process and would await justice, they said.

Meanwhile, a host of political leaders including Congress leaders Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily are expected to arrive in Mangalore to attend Jacintha's funeral on Monday.

Former Karnataka chief minister Sadananda Gowda visited the family and paid his condolences earlier in the day.

The family is expecting at least 15,000 people to attend the funeral. The body will be placed at the church in Shirva, Udupi at 3 pm. An hour-long memorial service will take place after that, followed by the funeral at 4 pm.
