Once a watchman's ‘jaagtey raho’ call kept neighbourhoods safe. In the age of CCTVs & better policing, thefts have drastically reduced. The Times of India recently listed the 7 Indian cities where maximum theft occurs.
Delhi beats other cities hands down when it comes to thefts -- a whopping 1,260 cases of theft per lakh population. That means, the national capital reports nearly 13 times as many thefts as Mumbai, 2nd on this list.
Bustling Mumbai stands second with 97 cases of theft per lakh population.
India's Silicon Valley also finds a place on this list -- 89 cases of theft per lakh population.
Yet another city of Maharashtra figures on the list: Pune has 65 cases of theft per lakh population.
Hyderabad too is one of the top 7 cities of India with high rates of robbery -- 39 cases of theft take place per lakh population.
Chennai registers 37 cases of theft per lakh population. The Times Of India reported last year that in Chennai, thieves travel fair distances to wealthier areas to steal.
Kolkata is at the bottom of this list with a mere 9 cases of theft per lakh population.
