Ex-servicemen to return war medals

The All-India Ex-services Welfare Association on Monday said its members would start returning war medals from September 15 to press its demand for ''one rank one pension''.

''The entire community of ex-servicemen is dismayed and disturbed over the lack of response'' from Prime Minister I K Gujral, on whose assurance the association called off its hunger strike on August 22, a press release said.

The association's governing council decided to return war medals to the President at a meeting on Sunday, which was attended, among others, by Air Marshal D S Sabbakhi of the Air Force Association, Brigadier Chopra, president of the Defence Colony Welfare Association and Major General Chauhan of the Eetawah Ex-servicemen Association.

A rally would be held at the Red Fort maidan on September 29 when eight volunteers would go on an indefinite fast once again, it said.
