A middle aged woman was found hanging, at the Shri Jagannath Temple premises in Puri on Tuesday, police said.
The woman, aged about 50 years, was found hanging from a wooden structure in 'Koili Baikuntha' area inside the temple, police said, adding that the case was suspected to be of suicide but the exact cause could be ascertained only after postmortem.
A case of unnatural death was registered at Singhadwara police station and efforts were on to establish the identity of the woman.
Temple rituals were delayed by about three hours after the body was recovered this morning as the entire complex had to be cleansed.
