Ohio lead insurmountable: White House

US President George W Bush carried Ohio by a "statistically insurmountable" number of votes and won reelection by a "decisive margin," White House chief of staff Andy Card said on Wednesday.

With a majority of the popular vote in hand, the Republican president planned to declare victory early on Wednesday. "We are convinced that President Bush has won re-election," Card said.

But the Kerry camp has maintained "we will fight for every vote" referring to the Ohio absentee votes, which it says number more than 2,50,000.

However, Card said Bush not only won a second term but Republicans added "to our majority in the House and to our majority in the Senate."
