Mayawati to woo business in Mumbai

March 11, 2003 03:04 IST

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati will visit Mumbai for three days from March 13 to make a sales pitch for her state to big business and the film industry. She will also address a rally at Shivaji Park to celebrate Bahujan Samaj Party founder-president Kanshi Ram's birthday.

Mayawati will address business personalities at the Taj Mahal Hotel at 1900 IST on March 13. At this meeting she is expected to present an investment-friendly picture of Uttar Pradesh.

On March 14, she will have a closed-door meeting from 1000 to 1300 IST with some industry leaders to brief them about specific investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati will interact with representatives of the Hindi film industry at 1800 IST the same day.

On March 15, the BSP will celebrate Kanshi Ram's birthday with a rally at Shivaji Park at 1500 IST. Kanshi Ram, who had started his political career in Maharashtra, though not very successfully, almost two decades ago, will also be present.

The BSP's Mumbai unit president Vilas Garud said the party had invited people from all over Maharashtra to participate in the function and make it a show of strength.

This will be Mayawati's first visit to India's commercial capital after becoming chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the third time in April 2002.

Ram Prakash Gupta, former Bharatiya Janata Party chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had similarly tried in 2000 to convince big business to invest in the state, but without any success.
