India stands a fair chance of success in the race to the top job in the United Nations, the country's nominee for UN secretary generalship Shashi Tharoor indicated on Monday.

"We would not have been in this race if we didn't believe there is a reasonable prospect for success," Tharoor told reporters after a 30-minute meeting with Prime Mnister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
