PM to leave for tsunami-hit areas

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will on Wednesday night leave for the tsunami-hit southern states and Union territories to take stock of the situation.

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Pondicherry and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands were battered by tsunami waves on Sunday, killing over 9,000 people.

Singh will first go to Tamil Nadu, official sources said.

He is expected to return on December 31.
