It was an emotional day for Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, a day of many firsts.

It was the first time he had ever stepped into Parliament and at the meeting held in the Central Hall he was elected leader of the National Democratic Alliance.

"It was said I was here for the first time. This keeps happening to me. I saw the Vidhan Sabha after I became chief minister," an overwhelmed Modi said.

"This (Parliament) is the temple of democracy," he added.

Before he entered Parliament, Modi was seen paying obseisance to the Home of Indian Democracy.
