In line with the expanding relations between the two countries, a high powered Indian legal delegation led by Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal will hold discussions with their American counterparts in Washington.
The Indian delegation will hold discussions with US Justices at the fifth meeting of Indo-US Legal Forum in Washington DC and San Francisco. This is the first high-level interaction between the two sides that is being held with the new composition of the United States Supreme Court.
Sabharwal is accompanied by senior Justices K G Balakrishnan, B N Agarwal, Ashok Bhan and Arijit Pasayat along with the Additional Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramaniam and former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve.
The Indian delegation has already held its first high level meeting with the United States
The Indian Supreme Court justices will listen to oral arguments scheduled in the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday and will attend a lunch hosted by Chief Justice Roberts. Later, the justices of the Indian and US Supreme Court will participate in a panel discussion on three different themes: 'The Work of the Supreme Court,' 'Comparative Constitutional Issues,' and 'Reliance on Decisions by Foreign Courts.'
Indian Ambassador Ronen Sen will host a dinner for the visiting delegation. It will be attended from the US side by Chief Justice Roberts and other Justices like Breyer and Alito. After a brief session in Washington DC, the India-United States Legal Forum will move its discussions to San Francisco on Wednesday where the focus will be on Federal Appeals Court.
