Foiling a terrorist plan to disrupt Republic Day celebrations in the national capital, the Delhi police have arrested two Harkat-ul Jehad-e-Islami ultras and recovered a large quantity of explosives from them.

Saidul and Shuabul, both Bangladeshi nationals, were arrested from Shastri Park area of East Delhi on Tuesday evening after a tip off, Joint Commissioner of Police (special cell) Karnal Singh said.

At least 1.4 kg of RDX, four detonators and two grenades were recovered from the two terrorists.

The duo had come to Delhi about two months ago, Singh said, adding that they were planning to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations.

The terrorists are being questioned about their exact plans and whether they had any accomplices.

Police believe that they could have surveyed some locations that they planned to target.

Intelligence agencies had warned of terrorist activity to disrupt the R-Day celebrations, prompting Delhi police to step up security at vital installations.
