Rahul Gandhi dares government to run bulldozer over him

November 28, 2014 09:52 IST

Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who met the slum dwellers in South Delhi's Rangpuri Pahari on Thursday, said that his party would fight for the rights of the poor.

Rahul Gandhi sent out a stern warning to the Centre saying, "They have won this time, but if they want to use the bulldozer again, let them drive it over my body."

He accused the Centre of harassing the poor.

"It's the winter season and its getting so cold. The government is sending these poor people out of their homes," he said.

"The Congress will fight for the rights of the poor. The poor are being thrown out of their houses; whatever is happening here is wrong," he told the media after meeting the slum dwellers.

The slum dwellers chanted slogans in support of the Congress vice-president as he interacted with some of them. Rahul’s 30-minute visit led to a near-stampede. Congress workers said it was a stocktaking visit, but it seemed more like a pre-poll show.

The Congress vice-president's visit to the Rangpuri Pahari slum comes at a time when Delhi is gearing up for the assembly polls.
