Women to be inducted into NSG

May 17, 2003 21:00 IST

The Women's Reservation Bill may have been deferred, but the Centre recently okayed induction of women in the National Security Guards.

As a result, an all-women force of 50 will be in position before August 15 this year.

The Inspector General of the NSG, Major General B S Dhillon, on Saturday left for Hyderabad to discuss this venture with officers of the National Police Academy.

The Centre wants to provide women commandoes to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her counterpart in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, from 2004.

The commandoes will be drawn from the Central Reserve Police, the Border Security Force and the Central Industrial Security Force.
