The Bhartiya Janata Party on Saturday accused Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee shying away from a promise made to the Opposition leaders after Tuesday's luncheon to revert back to them after consulting the prime minister.
"Till date, he (Mukherjee) has not conveyed any formal proposal to enable the Opposition to take a final view," BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told a press conference in response to Dr Manmohan Singh's appeal to the Opposition at a Leadership Summit on Saturday to allow Parliament to run and debate and discuss other issues.
"We have debated, discussed and repeatedly asked questions. Mr Prime Minister, you want debate, the BJP wants action and those responsible, including A Raja and the beneficiaries, interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, arrested and prosecuted under the Prevention of Corruption Act," he said in a statement, while sticking to the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)
Prasad also blasted those in Congress playing the Rag Darbari in defence of the PM over the massive 2G scam, asserting that it cannot hide the stark fact of the PM's involvement in a "conspiracy of silence, culpability of inaction"and said that the PM was "guilty of gross indifference when the nation's wealth was being plundered a minister right under his nose."
Posing questions to the PM for allowing the scam to happen and not acting even when then telecom minister Raja flouted his directives, he said these are only a few among the many uncomfortable questions and just the Congress leaders defending the PM would not absolve him.
