Vajpayee to visit Ayodhya by train

January 27, 2004 21:14 IST

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will travel by a special train from Katra to Ayodhya on February 7 to dedicate to the nation a mega-bridge on Sarayu River.

The distance between the two stations is eight kilometres, a railway spokesman said in New Delhi.

This will be the first train journey by a prime minister after Indira Gandhi travelled from Chandigarh to New Delhi in the 1980s.

Former prime minister Morarji Desai had also travelled by a train in 1978.
