Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Centre for Gandhian and Indian Studies at Fudan University in China. Two Chinese students recited verses from the Bhagwad Gita at the event.

Here are the highlights from the event

1) Today is historic. I have joined a very auspicious occasion here

2) Few political leaders have the good fortune of meeting students from universities outside their country. I thank you for giving me this chance

3) It is easy to open doorways for the economy and tourism, but to open doorway for knowledge takes inner strength

4) Today yet again China has opened a doorway into philosophies of Gandhi, which I consider a landmark event

5) The world is suffering from global warming and terrorism. Gandhian ideals have the solution to these problems

6) The 21st Century is Asia’s century. India and China should work together to encourage people to live life dedicated to human welfare
