Sanjay Joshi back in the BJP

April 03, 2006 11:17 IST

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sanjay Joshi, who had resigned as party general secretary (organisation) in the wake of the circulation of sleaze CDs, was on Monday reinstated to the post.

Party president Rajnath Singh has reinstated Joshi with immediate effect, BJP Office Secretary Shyam Jaju told PTI.

After the Madhya Pradesh Police gave a "clean chit" to Joshi in the CD controversy, Rajnath Singh had praised him, saying if he had not been innocent, he would not have resigned from the post.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh general secretary Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the RSS has reinstated Joshi as a pracharak (organiser).

Joshi, who was the RSS point man in the BJP, had resigned during the party's silver jubilee session in Mumbai in December.

Joshi is understood to have played a key role in the resignation of Lal Kishenchand Advani as party chief following the row with the RSS on the Jinnah issue.

With his hardliner image, Joshi, a stickler for discipline and ideology, had also earned the hostility of several second-rung leaders, including former party leader Uma Bharti.

He was earlier the organisation's general secretary in Gujarat and was succeeded by Narendra Modi.
