B B Tandon likely to be next CEC

Election Commissioner B B Tandon is likely to succeed T S Krishna Murthy as the chief election commissioner of India, official sources said on Tuesday.

Tandon, 64, an IAS officer of 1965 batch, was appointed election commissioner in 2001 and will be in office till June 2006.

Murthy, who assumed office as CEC on February 8, 2004, will demit office on May 15.

Tandon

has held various top level posts in the Union government, the Himachal Pradesh government and the Union territories of Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
