U S Mishra has retired as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
His retirement comes after 37 years of service.
Mishra handed over temporary charge to his colleague J K Dutt at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday.
After taking over, the 1971 batch officer said his predecessor's planned efforts had resulted in the extradition of gangster Abu Salem and Monica Bedi.
"We will build on this good work and hope to extradite more fugitives to India to stand trial," Dutt said, promising to continue with the anti-corruption drive, particularly at 'high places,' which was the high point of Mishra's career.
