US President George W Bush spoke to Manmohan Singh on Wednesday evening and congratulated him on his appointment as India's prime minister.
The leaders agreed to strengthen the multifaceted relations between the two countries.
The telephonic conversation, which lasted eight minutes, was warm and cordial, an external affairs ministry spokesperson said.
