HC seeks details of calls made from Bihar jails

December 13, 2004 17:43 IST

The Patna high court on Monday directed Bihar's inspector general of police (prisons) to submit before it details of the calls made and received on cell phones seized from prison inmates in December 8's statewide raids on central jails.

Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Pappu Yadav's cell phone was also seized in the raids ordered by the high court as part of a crackdown on criminals operating kidnapping-extortion rackets from jails.

A Division Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Nagendra Rai and Justice S N Hussain, ordered the IG to submit the report on December 15.

The court is hearing a PIL filed by the Indian Medical Association (Bihar) alleging that criminals are targeting doctors for extortion.
