"The hearing of the petition in the Supreme Court is the last hope for us," said Janata Dal-United leader Upendra Kuswaha.

The petition was filed on May 31 by four former legislators -- Rameshwar Prasad Chaurasia (BJP), Kishore Kumar Munna (Independent), Rampravesh Rai (JD-U) and Dr Anil Kumar (breakaway Lok Janshakti Party), who were all elected in the 2005 elections

In June 2005, a National Democratic Alliance delegation led by BJP president Lal Kishenchand Advani and JD-U chief George Fernandes lodged a strong protest with President A P J Abdul Kalam and urged him to undo the 'unconstitutional' act.

Earlier, Advani and Fernandes led a march on behalf of the JD-U and rebel LJP MLAs of the dissolved House to Rashtrapati Bhavan to present a memorandum to Kalam.
