Reason why: He displays true dedication and commitment. His supremacy in this game has been accepted by the whole world. He has brought joy to at least 850 million Indians (if not 900 million) irrespective of cast, creed, region and religion. And for those Indians, who stay abroad, he has been the sole source of inspiration and has made all of us proud. Now we can talk of having a person in India along with other names like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and C V Raman to name some.

Name: Surajit Agarwal

Yet he has somehow managed to stabilise the political ship and guide the nation away from the grim situation of another poll. Moreover, the so-called allies have been very selfish and given him tough time, which has passed. May god give him the strength and ability to guide our nation to better glory!

He is a universally acknowledged genius despite being born in a country where mediocrity and chalta hai attitude is pervasive. He was the only bright star in the otherwise dreary chasm that India in1998 was. He is the true "Bharat Ratna", streets ahead of the decrepit politicians who have been monopolising this award. Name: V Jayaraman
Email: vjay202@hotmail.com
Nomination: Amartya Sen
Reason why: Indians have not been doing well when it comes to international recognition, be it in sports, science or any other. Our concern has unfortunately been limited to politics and cinema, spoiling young Indians' minds. there are no role models for young indians to feel proud of. in these circumstances, Dr Sen's winning the Nobel, that too in economics dealing with poor people, has come as big shot in the arm. His concern for literacy for all to reduce the economic imbalance is a wise man's unbiased statement, not withstanding skewed opinions from religious fundamentalist(s) who have more interest in keeping the public away from education. Dr Sen's winning is the most positive thing to happen on the Indian horizon. Let it open the floodgate of more international recognition to India in the New Millennium.
