Jamir to attend Atlanta meet with Naga militants

Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral has given the nod for Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir's Atlanta trip, where the latter will attend the round table conference with Naga militant leaders on July 28.

The talks are expected to break fresh ground in the militancy-hit state's peace process.

"Economic development is not possible in the state unless there is peace," said Jamir.

The meeting is being organised by the World Baptist Alliance to commemorate 125 years of Christianity in Nagaland.

Among those attending the meeting are Opposition leader Vamuzo and two Naga members of Parliament and other political leaders.

One of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland groups has responded positively to the appeal for dialogue.
