Azadaari tensions lessen, curfew lifted in Lucknow areas

The district administration has completely lifted the curfew in Lucknow's Aminabad police station area.

Indefinite curfew was imposed in six police station areas last Thursday following tensions over the Azadaari procession issue in the old city.

In the other five areas, the duration of relaxation has been increased.

Lucknow Deputy Inspector General Dr Kashmira Singh said no untoward incident has been reported anywhere in the old city. Relief operations were in full swing, and a cleanliness drive has been launched by the Nagar Nigam in the curfew-bound areas.

Meanwhile, a team of Congressmen, led by former Union minister of state for home Syed Sibte Razi, alleged they were denied entry into curfew-bound areas, while all they wanted was to 'create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.'
