Bill on presidential poll passed
The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed, after a brief
debate, the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections (second
amendment) bill seeking to discourage non-serious candidates from
contesting to the two of the highest offices in the country.
The bill in the present form was introduced in the House on
Monday following its falling through in the Rajya Sabha with the
adoption of the BJP-sponsored statutory resolution last week.
Law Minister Ramakant Khalap, who piloted the bill,
said the legislation was part of the electoral reforms
being brought in by the government.
