    9pm: Terrorists get into an Innova taxi at a village near Khatana T-point on Jammu-Pathankot Highway. After a 1.5 km the driver crashed into a rock. The terrorists kill the driver and take the car to the T-point.

    9:30 pm: Terrorists abduct Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh. They drive for 20 kiolmetres before asking SP to get off. Terrorists steal the official car of the SP.

    Midnight to 2 am: The terrorists tied the SP and Verma's cook, and took Verma along with them to the airbase. Learning that Salwinder Singh was a senior police officer, they were instructed by their handlers to head back to hold SP hostage again. By that time, the SP and the cook managed to escape and the terrorists decided to get rid of Verma. Terrorists use the officer's mobile phone to call handlers in Bhawalpur, Pakistan.

    3 am: The terrorists storm into the base through a entry point that adjoins the village. One terrorist was reportedly shot dead as he was clambering over a 10-ft wall topped by concertina wire.

    3:30 am: Five remaining terrorists gain entry into the domestic area of air force station where they engage in firing with security personnel. A DSC team is ambushed, one of the personnel is killed. Terrorists then enter the DSC mess where personnel were preparing breakfast and they fired indiscriminately. Hawildar Jagdish Chandra engages a terrorist bare-handed and manages to kill him with the latter's own rifle. Hawildar Chandra is shot dead by another terrorist.

    9 am: NSG personnel arrive at the base. Air assets are employed in the anti-terror operation.

    10 am: Gunshots heard from within the airbase again. Sound of three grenade blasts heard too. Aerial firing by IAF choppers at the site.

    11:40 am: National Investigation Agency team reaches Pathankot. Two IAF personnel and one Garuda commando are martyred during the operation.

    3:43 pm: High level meeting between chiefs of three Services, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Defence Minster Manohar Parrikar begins at South Block.

    6:37 pm: Two more terrorists are neutralised. Combing operations begin.

    7:30 pm: Home Minister Rajnath Singh congratulates armed forces and other security forces on successfully neutralising all the five terrorists in Pathankot Operation. Uncertainty prevails on the number of terrorists killed in the attack on the Pathankot air base, with Home Minister Rajnath Singh withdrawing a tweet putting the number at five.

    9 am: Search operations resume at Pathankot air base after Saturday's terror attack. While there were reports of firing being heard inside the base, they were attributed to combing operations. Meanwhile, three other security men succumbed to injuries in a hospital.

    12:30 pm: Lt Col Niranjan, chief of the NSG bomb squad, was undertaking a mopping up and render safe procedure on the encounter spot when a blast occurred and splinters and sharpnels hit the officer fatally. Meanwhile, fresh firing has been reported from inside the air Base, in what could be an indication that the operation is currently on.

    2 pm: Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, DIG Border Range Punjab Police confirms that there could be more terrorists holed up inside. Explosions rocked the area with high rise smoke clouds coming from the scene of gunbattle amidst heavy exchange of firing in the afternoon and evening between terrorists and security forces.

    4 pm: Building inside air base facing Akalgarh village destroyed by security forces. One terrorist was believed hiding there.

    5 pm: Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and Air Marshal Anil Khosla, Director General Air Operations, address the media and say that casualty could have been higher if not for prior intelligence. Air Marshal Khosla says the operation was "slowed down" on Saturday after the killing of four terrorists as security forces were not sure whether there were more terrorists still at large. The home secretary denies any lapse while dealing with the terrorists.

    9:30 pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a meeting with top officials to discuss the Pathankot terror attack. Soon after returning from his two-day visit to Karnataka, Modi chaired a meeting of top officials including National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar.

    10 pm: Active operations seemed to have been wrapped up for the day.

    9 am: Heavy gunfire is heard from inside the Pathankot air base. Intermittent firing followed by grenade being hurled at the air force station.

    12:20 pm: NSG briefs media persons on the attack. Operations for this airbase are going on smoothly. Given the magnitude, joint ops have been launched. I would like to assure that all personnel and strategic assets are safe. Families live here, schools are here too. It is like a mini city here, their safety has been ensured, says Major General Dushyant Singh, NSG.

    1:27 pm: 2 remaining terrorists holed up inside double-storey IAF living quarters at Pathankot airbase. In an intercepted call, handlers for the terrorists are reportedly heard asking why second group of attackers had fallen behind. Investigators now say they are sure that the attackers infiltrated India together, but then split up to avoid detection. NSA Ajit Doval cancels his trip to China scheduled for Tuesday.

    4:21 pm: The two remaining terrorists are killed.
