Suspected gangster killed in Mangalore encounter

A suspected gangster was killed in an encounter with the police near Gurupura on the outskirts of Mangalore in the wee hours of Friday.

The incident occurred when some unidentified gangsters fired at the police when they were checking their vehicle at Gurupura, Superintendent of Police S P Satheesh Kumar told PTI.

The trio was coming in a car from Mulky when the police stopped them for routine checking. However, the trio fired at the police which returned the fire, injuring one of the members.

The two passengers in the car managed to escape, leaving the car behind.

The injured was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, he said.

A pistol and a revolver were recovered from the site of the encounter.
