Keeping in view the serious threats posed by terror groups, the government has promulgated an Ordinance under which Central Industrial Security Force could be deployed at private and joint venture industrial units.

The ordinance known as the CISF (Amendment) 2009 has come into effect since Sunday, an official spokesman of the Home Ministry said on Monday.

He said with the growing threat of terrorist outfits, the industries in the private sector and joint venture, which have contributed to the growth of economy, also require assurance of security.

"Therefore, the relevant sections of the CISF Act, 1968 have been amended to enable the deployment of CISF for security of private sector and joint venture enterprises on cost reimbursement basis," the spokesman said.

He said this will pave the way for deployment of CISF personnel depending on the threat perception to such units.

Besides this, a provision has also been made to facilitate deputation of CISF personnel on United Nations peace-keeping mission abroad. Earlier, this paramilitary force was never a part of any UN mission.
