Famous residents

The constituency, with a total voter population of 19,33,904, boasts of residents like Ratan Tata, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Ambani brothers and Mahindras in the southern most tip. It is also home to sportsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Ravi Shastri, Ajit Wadekar, Bapu Nadkarni, former Indian hockey captain M M Somaya, ex-badminton international Pradeep Gandhe and singing legends Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale.

The constituency is a mix of upper middle class in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Napean Sea Road, Pedder Road, tenants of old and dilapidated buildings, mill workers struggling to get their dues from owners and slums outside the Mahalaxmi Race Course.

Maharashtrians comprise about 43.6 per cent of the voters followed by Gujarathis (15.3 per cent), Rajasthanis (12.6 per cent), Muslims (12.2 per cent), North Indians (6 per cent), South Indians (3.8 per cent), Parsis and Christians (combined 3.2 per cent).
