France, India's friend indeed

September 29, 2008
The French President, who sees India grow as a major global power in the next 20 years, praised the prime minister repeatedly throughout the press conference. He said the prime minister has done great work and they welcome the development on nuclear cooperation.

The French President also noted how France had worked tirelessly to get an NSG waiver for India and this was necessary if India was to be a partner in nuclear co-operation.

Dr Singh said India seeks cooperation with all countries on the issue of civil nuclear energy. He said, at present, the US Congress was engaged in passing legislation for co-operation between India and the United States with the NSG also agreeing to adjust its guidelines and allowing cooperation.
