Communist Party of India general secretary A B Bardhan, who was taken ill while on way to flood-hit Saharsa and Madhepura districts in Bihar, was flown to the national capital on Monday where he was  admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The 82-year-old Communist leader was detected with a stone in his gall bladder and doctors said they may conduct a surgery on him, party leaders said.

Bardhan was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Barauni Refinery Hospital in Bihar on Sunday after he complained of diarrhoea and shivering, forcing him to call off the visit to the flood-ravaged areas.

Bardhan was flown to the capital and admitted to AIIMS on afternoon. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images], CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat [Images] and Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu [Images] enquired about his health over phone, the party said in a statement.
