Seven army troopers and three porters were buried alive in an avalanche in north Kashmir two days ago.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, a senior police officer said three porters were buried alive in the Nowshehra Nar area in Gurez near the Line of Control [Images] on Monday morning.

"An army search patrol was dispatched to the area to trace the missing porters. However, the patrol was also struck by the avalanche, and two officers and five troopers were buried alive," Sheikh Junaid, district police chief Bandipore told rediff.com.

"Army search teams have so far recovered bodies of two armymen while search for others is still on."

The search may be hampered, because the meteorological office in Srinagar [Images] has predicted more rains and snow for the next two days in Kashmir.

The Gurez area in north Kashmir Bandipore district is avalanche prone, which claims several lives.
